EO Sobrietary Chip Report, Tom B., 5/11/2008: The cost of the plastic chips with is $0.37 per chip (plus about 8 cents per chip S&H) - call 'em 50 cents per chip, same as the aluminum from central office. I'd like to propose that we order 100 plastic 24 hour chips (our current need) and "see what happens" in terms of folks' issues with plastic vs. clay. I will also make some suggestions to our supplier who seemed interested in a possible new clay chip supplier for herself (i.e. maybe she'll reduce that overhead). Alternate Clay chip quote is $0.67 but note that they also say "low run < 700 of $10 fee" and "custom label setup fee of $40" - each of our 12 chips (24 hour to 11 month) would entail the $40 fee plus the $10 fee so for any of our 12 chip "designs" we're at $50 before we even order one chip of any "design" (24hours is a different "design" than 4 months). This is typical of what I've been finding. We typically order about 100 chips per 1-2 months. On average these are typically about 50 of the 24 hour chips and 50 of various monthly denominations (more of 30 day decreasing to the 11 months as you'd expect). E.g. one month I'd order 60 of the 24-hour, 20 of the 30 day and 20 of the 4 month, one or two months later it might be 40 24-hour, and 20 each of 3 other chips) This is all "back of the envelope" numbers. I could go through all my records and be more specific if you all would like. For comparison we can buy the aluminum chips from Central Office for 50 cents each and the Bronze cost us $1.50 each. I don't mind continuing as chip coordinator for longer than my original commitment, but also don't mind stepping aside to allow others to serve.
